In most of the studies of metformin to lose weight before that it was adopted, people used it that lost weight (1.4 to 8.4 pounds on average). However, the people in these studies, which was not taking metformin also lost weight. The difference between the groups was not significant, indicating that there was no difference statistics between the two groups. In these studies, people were taking metformin to treat type 2 diabetes. It is unclear if metformin has an effect on the weight in people who do not have diabetes.

It is important to note that in most of the studies of metformin for weight loss, people do not often gain weight. Many medications for diabetes is known to cause weight gain, which is particularly desirable for people with type 2 diabetes (that may already have problems with weight gain). Therefore, even if metformin does not cause weight loss, is often a good option for people with overweight with diabetes type 2.

It is not entirely clear about metformin for weight loss in the majority of people with type 2 diabetes.
At least, however, it seems that people who take metformin does not increase weight (a common problem with many other medications for diabetes). It is unclear if metformin has an effect on the weight in people who do not have diabetes.
